Dr. Glen Duerr is a citizen of three countries. He was born in the United Kingdom, moved to Canada as a teenager, and then to the United States to obtain his Ph.D. His teaching and research interests include nationalism and secession, comparative politics, international relations theory, sports and politics, and Christianity and politics. He has published numerous refereed journal articles, book chapters, encyclopedia entries, and book reviews. On Wednesday, North Korea launched another missile.  This is the 15th launch this year, but this one appears different.   North Korea claims this is new type of intercontinental ballistic missile with a "super-large heavy warhead" — which is capable of striking the US mainland.

America is on alert.  New sanctions are being implemented and every effort seems to be in play to avoid conflict.

In stunning news, NATO  just confirmed that North Korea has deployed about 12,000 troops to Russia.

More criminal charges have been filed against former President Donald Trump. 

A Haitian nonprofit group filed criminal charges against Donald Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, and his running mate, Senator JD Vance of Ohio, regarding statements they  recently made about immigration in Springfield, Ohio. They are being accused of villifying the Haitian community with their claims that immigrants are eating cats and dogs in the Springfield area.

 The tension between Israel and Lebanon has soared to new heights after Hezbollah pagers and other devices exploded in two consecutive attacks on September 17 and 18. The explosions, which the Lebanese government has attributed to Israel, wounded around 3,250 people, and resulted in the death of at least 32.

Tensions Rise in the Middle East

Dr. Glen Duerr, assistant professor of international studies at Cedarville University, did a large part of his doctoral research in Brussels in 2011-12. Through his extensive interviews with key leaders, he concluded in his dissertation that Brussels could be attacked by terrorists. This tragedy took place March 22, 2016.

MIAMI VALLEY -- The former North Korean detainee Jeffery Fowle is headed home!

Fowles' family screamed for joy when they found out that he was returning home.
    
Jeffrey Fowle was detained by the government in North Korea after he left a bible in a public place.

He was held for six months, separated from his wife and three children who live in Miamisburg. The family's attorney and spokesperson for the Fowles said they were not expecting his release.

Experts say North Korea may have decided to let Fowle go because the communist nation likely has another agenda.

Fowle's release comes as a surprise because two other American detainees, Kenneth Bae and Matthew Miller, still remain in captivity. Those two have been sentenced to hard labor.

The family spokesperson says Jeffrey is looking forward to adjusting back into his normal routine.

MIAMI VALLEY -- A family spokesperson for the Miamisburg man recently released from detention in North Korea says Jeffrey Fowle's family is elated about his Ohio homecoming. 

"Immediately, I called Tatiana and she screamed with excitement," family attorney Timothy Tepe said. "Very, very excited and elated to hear that Jeffrey's on his way home."

Fowle was detained for about six months after North Korean officials say he left a bible in a public place. 

"We were digging in for the long haul, that's what we were doing as recently as this (Tuesday) morning. Digging in for is this going to be another six months, six years ... we didn't know," Tepe said at his office in Lebanon.

The U.S. State Department said Jeff Fowle was flown Tuesday from Pyongyang to Guam and evaluated by medical staff who cleared his return to the United States.

"The U.S. government has taken him there, and it's my suspicion that they will interview him extensively," said Glen Duerr, Ph.D., who specializes in international studies at Cedarville University. "He's probably picked up information that he's unaware of and it will be of intelligence for the United States."

Two other Americans, Kenneth Bae and Matthew Miller, have been sentenced to hard labor and remain in North Korea. 

"If I'm reading between the lines it's probably very good behavior on the part of Jeffrey Fowle on the one hand, and on the second hand it's also North Korea looking for a bargaining chip when it comes to nuclear weapons and talks with the United States," said Duerr. 

Officials say Fowle will be flown into Wright-Patterson Air Force Base the morning of Wednesday, October 21.

"All I'm focused on right now is Jeffrey being back in Ohio and reuniting him with his wife and children," said Tepe.

Before being detained in North Korea, Fowle was employed with the City of Moraine. 

He was terminated from that job in September 2014. 

The family's spokesperson said it's likely the city would re-hire Fowle when he returns home.

The City of Moraine announced a press availability Wednesday, Oct. 22.
