I have participated in development and technical liaison (marketing/requirements analysis/Open Source evangelism) activities for a number of different industries (financial, automotive, home automation, cellular hardware, government/defense). In addition to design and development, I have leveraged my ability to concretely explain technology to non-technical audiences, including giving presentations to external and internal audiences on a variety of subjects.

I like to speak on topics centered around Open Source/Community and their applicability to a wide range of collaboration and technology challenges.  I've also spent time in the US Defense contracting space applying Open Source principles, and I can speak to that as well.  Finally, I do speak indirectly about social media topics, but only as they apply to enhancing or building communities.  Therefore, I wouldn't consider myself a 'Social Media Expert', just an informed and passionate proponent of their judicious use.

A talk describing how my team developed an Open Source-style code sharing repository for the US Department of Defense. This talk is not strictly about the tools/system we built, but also some of the cultural challenges we faced and overcame, as well as a discussion of why building communities was critical to the success of the effort.

There are some ROI numbers and take aways I leave the audience with to show how taking a chance on 'thinking different' in a traditional organization such as the DoD can have lasting benefits.
